They did an amazing job on my back yard. The grass looks amazing and professionally done definitely would recommend them. And use them for future work.

Watched my wretched yard transform in 3 1/2 hours! Boone suggested a tree and it is gorgeous. Sod layed so fast and precise (magical). Back yard tomorrow and I cannot wait. Boone, office staff and workers are so nice.

I had terrible drainage in my backyard. Water would sit in low lying areas, creating lovely mud puddles for my dog to roll around in. Boone’s came and installed French drains, sloped my backyard to flow the water to them, and reinstalled sod.

I was in a tight situation for getting something done before I closed on my home. Boone was able to fit me in next day and did an incredible job on the space for the quote he gave me.

Who we are
Boone's Landscaping is a design-build landscaping company based in Montgomery, Texas, serving The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe and North Houston since 2010. We design to scale, install with our own crews, and set out in writing what our workmanship covers.
Family-owned by Boone and Rhonda McDonald, the firm has completed more than 500 projects across Montgomery, Harris and Walker County — from single-bed refreshes to resort-scale outdoor living. Every estimate is free, itemised and delivered in writing.
A design-build firm draws the plan and installs it with the same team, so nothing is lost between the drawing and the ground. The alternative — a designer who hands a plan to whichever crew bids lowest — is where most of the problems we get called to fix begin: a base built too shallow, drainage omitted because it was not on the plan, or plant substitutions nobody approved.
Regularly. Our core service area is Montgomery County — The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe, Montgomery, Magnolia, Willis and Tomball — and we take projects across North Houston into Harris and Walker County, including Katy, Huntsville and New Waverly. If you are outside that radius, call and we will tell you honestly whether the drive makes sense for the scope you have in mind.
What we do
Scaled design and planting plans before a shovel moves. Site assessment covers grade, drainage, soil and sun exposure, and the design fee is credited against installation.
Paver patios, walkways, seat walls and retaining walls. Everything is built on a compacted crushed-concrete base, because clay soil moves and a sand-only base separates by year three.
Built-in grills, pizza ovens, masonry fireplaces and fire tables. Gas runs, electrical and counter surfaces are coordinated so the space works after dark and in December.
Koi ponds, waterfalls, streams and formal fountains. Filtration and liner detail are specified for the volume, so the water stays clear without a pump running constantly.
Paver decks, coping, spa surrounds and pool landscaping. Planting is chosen to tolerate splash-out and chlorine, and the deck is graded to drain away from the coping.
Low-voltage path, uplight and step lighting design. Fixtures are brass or copper rather than aluminium, because Gulf humidity destroys painted housings within a few seasons.
Smart controllers, zone repair and drip conversion. Head-to-head coverage is verified by audit, and pressure-regulated bodies keep zones even when district restrictions cut watering days.
Standing water, catch basins and foundation drainage. Most yards here hold water because clay sits against a poor grade — the fix is carrying water to daylight, not adding topsoil.
Fertilization, weed control, aeration and seasonal programmes for St. Augustine, Bermuda and Zoysia. Pre-emergent timing is keyed to soil temperature, not the calendar.
Removal, crane work, structural pruning and stump grinding. Pines over a roofline are taken down in sections with a crane rather than felled, which is what the insurance requires.
Downed trees and debris cleared fast after Gulf storms. We prioritise access — driveways and doors first — then work the property, and we document damage for your claim.
Office parks, entrances and common-area grounds contracts. Scheduled maintenance with a named account contact, seasonal colour rotations and irrigation monitoring across the portfolio.
What it costs
Four rungs, from recurring care through to capital improvement. These are real installed ranges for Montgomery County properties, not "call for pricing" — and every estimate we issue is itemised line by line so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Front or backyard refresh. New planting beds, shrubs, seasonal colour, mulch and irrigation adjustments. Completed in one to two weeks.
Paver patio or walkway, new plantings, an irrigation system, landscape lighting and a French drain where the grade needs one. Includes scaled design. Three to five weeks.
Outdoor kitchen, fire pit or fireplace, extensive hardscaping, a water feature, professional lighting and full irrigation. Eight to twelve weeks.
Resort-style outdoor living across multiple entertainment areas — pool landscaping, custom water features and premium materials throughout.
Our process
Six stages, one point of contact, and a written scope before anyone breaks ground.
On-site visit within 48 hours to walk the property and understand the vision.
Grade, drainage, soil and sun exposure measured before anything is drawn.
Detailed plans drawn to scale so you see the result before we break ground.
Itemised pricing, plus the ARC paperwork for Woodlands DSC and HOA approval.
Our own crews, premium materials, and a site left clean at the end of every day.
Final review together, care instructions, and any agreed warranty terms in writing.
Standing behind it
We stand behind our workmanship. Everything else is quoted, not assumed.
If something fails because of how we installed it, we put it right. Storm damage, neglect and ordinary wear are not the same thing — and we will price cover for those separately if you want it.
Why homeowners choose us
You approve the finished look before we break ground — no surprises at reveal.
If our installation is the reason something failed, we put it right. Damage and neglect are not covered, and we will quote cover for those separately.
We prepare Woodlands Development Standards and ARC submissions routinely.
Plant selection for Gulf humidity, clay soil and drought restrictions.
No subcontracted installation. The people who designed it build it.
A schedule we hold to, and reviews you can read below rather than a number we assert.
Common problems
Six problems account for most of the calls we take. Each has a real cause and a real fix — here is what is actually going on.
Beaumont clay holds water against a grade that runs the wrong way. Adding topsoil does nothing — it has to be carried off. A French drain to daylight plus regrading beds away from the slab fixes it permanently, and we verify the fall with a laser level before quoting.
Almost always a sand-only base under seasonal shrink-swell. The repair is lifting the field, cutting in a compacted crushed-concrete base with proper edge restraint, and relaying. Done right it does not move again.
St. Augustine needs four hours of sun and loses to shade and root competition. The honest answer is usually to stop fighting it — shade-tolerant beds, a stepping path or decomposed granite outperform turf that dies every August.
Usually chinch bugs or brown patch fungus, and the two need opposite treatments. We identify which before applying anything, because a fungicide on an insect problem wastes a season.
Either pressure loss across too many heads on a run, or mismatched nozzles watering at different rates. An audit measures output in catch cups; the fix is usually splitting the zone, not adding heads.
Committees reject on missing detail more than on design. We submit to the format The Woodlands DSC and local ARCs expect — dimensioned drawings, material specs, plant schedule — which is what gets an approval first time.
Local conditions
Three site conditions decide whether a landscape here lasts five years or one. Every design we draw accounts for all three before a plant is chosen.
Most of Montgomery County sits on Beaumont clay — heavy, slow-draining, and prone to shrink-swell that cracks patios laid without a proper base. We excavate to six inches and build on compacted crushed concrete, not sand alone.
Winter lows reach the low 20s once or twice a decade. That rules out the tropicals nurseries sell here every spring and rules in Texas sage, dwarf yaupon, muhly grass and Little Gem magnolia — plants that survive both the freeze and August.
The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District can impose watering-day limits in drought. Systems we install use pressure-regulated heads and smart controllers so a restricted schedule still keeps turf alive.
Materials
Material choice is where a patio either holds its line for twenty years or lifts and separates by year three. These are the six we specify most across Montgomery County.
Colourfast because the colour is fired through, not coated. Herringbone laid on a compacted base for driveways.
Wider format and lower cost per square foot. Best for large patios where a running bond suits the scale.
Oklahoma and Pennsylvania stone for irregular patios and stepping paths where a softer edge is wanted.
Engineered retaining wall block with geogrid reinforcement on anything above three feet, plus drainage gravel behind.
For raised decks where the span is over a wet grade and timber would rot. Twenty-five-year boards.
Placed, not scattered — set two-thirds buried so a water feature or bed edge reads as landform, not decoration.
Timing
Landscaping in Texas is seasonal work. Booking against the right window is the cheapest way to get a better result.
Best window for planting and for laying sod. Pre-emergent goes down before soil hits 55°F or crabgrass wins the year.
Book now and planting goes in before summer heat starts dictating the schedule.
Hardscaping season — dry ground compacts properly. Irrigation audits matter most now; we check head-to-head coverage before the heat.
Book now for hardscaping — dry ground compacts properly, and this is the only season it does.
The strongest planting window in Texas. Roots establish through a mild winter instead of fighting an August install.
Book now and roots establish through a mild winter instead of fighting an August install.
Design and approval season. Tree pruning while dormant, and HOA submissions filed so work starts the moment spring opens.
Book now and your HOA or ARC submission clears while we design, so work starts the moment spring opens.

Questions
Landscaping in Montgomery County typically runs $3,000–$8,000 for a front or back yard refresh, $15,000–$35,000 for a paver patio with planting and irrigation, and $50,000–$100,000 for a full outdoor living build. Estate-scale projects exceed $100,000. Every estimate is free and itemised.
A planting and mulch refresh takes one to two weeks. A patio with irrigation and lighting runs three to five weeks. A complete outdoor living transformation with an outdoor kitchen and water feature takes eight to twelve weeks, including design and HOA approval time.
Yes. We prepare and submit the ARC paperwork for The Woodlands Development Standards Committee and for HOAs across Montgomery County. Design drawings are produced to the format each committee expects, which is usually what delays an approval.
A site assessment covering grade, drainage, soil and sun exposure; a planting plan selected for Texas climate; hardscape layouts with materials; a lighting plan; and scaled drawingss of the finished space. Design fees are credited against installation.
Standing water in Montgomery County is usually clay soil holding water against a poor grade. The fix is a French drain or catch-basin system carrying water to daylight, combined with regrading beds away from the foundation. We assess the grade before quoting.
We stand behind our workmanship: if our installation is the reason something failed, we put it right, and what that covers is written into the quote. Storm damage, drought, neglect and ordinary wear are not covered — ask and we will price separate cover or a maintenance plan that does.
Yes. Many projects keep mature trees and established beds and build around them. We will tell you plainly which existing plantings are worth keeping and which are working against the design.
